Jason Terry was named head coach of the Grand Rapids Gold, the G League affiliate marketing vs performance marketing of the Denver Nuggets, on Thursday.
Terry played for six teams across 19 NBA seasons and was most recently an assistant coach for the University of Arizona.Terry ranks seventh in NBA history with 2,282 career 3-point baskets.
Terry, 43, last played in 2018 for the Milwaukee Bucks. In 1,410 career games with the Atlanta Hawks (1999-2004), Dallas Mavericks (2004-12), Boston Celtics (2012-13), Brooklyn Nets (2013-14), Houston Rockets (2014-16) and Bucks (2016-18), the guard averaged 13.4 points and 3.8 assists per game and shot 38 percent from 3-point range.
It is not Terry’s first foray into the NBA’s main developmental league.He worked as the assistant general manager of the G League’s Texas Legends in 2019-20.
ESPN reported that Terry “wanted to get on a path to becoming a head coach.”
The Gold changed its name from the Grand Rapids Drive earlier this year. This will also be the first season the team is affiliated with the Nuggets.
